I'd like to jump in with this phone (having been a little bit disappointed with the Samsung Omnia) but a must have app for me is an office suite - specifically Word document handling. I do a lot of writing and I like the portability of a smart phone. Also I watch a lot of movies in .avi format. This phone surely would handle this...wouldn't it?

Well, After some time using the N97, I am getting the impression that their efforts to use the Indian Programmers to program apps for the N97 may be a ploy to get Indian Money to purchase the N97 because they have Indian Developers writting code that only Indian Cellphone Companies and Cellphone users could use. Think of it over 1 Billion possible owners of the N97. Huge Captive audience.

This is a decission that is all about the bottom line. It is not about global satisfaction, it is about geographic satisfaction where the largest audience resides.

That is the facts of the GLOBAL Economy.

If each region wants to have software or features that are to their liking, we are going to have to development ourselves.

The Corporations of the Global Economy are going to follow the largest Audiences to get the best return on investment. Return on investment is the name of the game.

Just ask all the big investment houses.

The US went there in a big way. Then the wages got out of control so they had to move to China and the PI. Now Nokia is there. IBM, MS, and Oracle to name a few are there now too.

India is more than happy to take the jobs of anyone to get their population above the global poverty level. Ask them, they will tell you.

I have to disagree with black_cast.

The Missing Sync does not work flawlessly with the N97 unless you are willing to reboot your phone before and after every sync. Mark Space knows that there is a problem with their phone client, but the actual fault lies with Nokia as they changed the database structure on the N97 and internally it does not share crucial elements of its sister, the 5800XM. Unless Nokia fixes the N97, there will be no iSync plugins ever. This is a fact. Think about how long it has taken to have a plugin by now. Novamedia, a leader in making the iSync plugins is no longer even trying as the N97 is too hosed up. So to come full circle, while The Missing Sync provides some relief, it too has problems and is not without issue, and currently not worth the money in my opinion.

Trent, just wanted say thanks for the tip(s) regarding Missing Sync and the N97.

After a week of procrastination I put down the money, downloaded the software, and after clearing out some of the demo videos from the N97 main memory (and un-installing a few of the unused widgets) I now have a working sync solution.

The N97 now feels like a genuine progression from my old N95 8GB.

After the upgrade your phone should run better. Many third party developers are saying that Nokia has screwed up the USB, and BT sections on the N97 and that a massive firmware rewrite is coming. One can hope. Can anyone provide more info about the Missing Sync for Symbian/Nokia and if it works with the N97 and if they offer a demo version.

I went with GooSync.com. I got it working. I went to the GooSync Site and followed the directions after I purchased the phone.

Have you updated the ROM Update for the Firmware?

If so have you rerun the tests that you ran before. No matter how painful they were the first time, how were the test results AFTER the Firmware Update?

I personally noticed night and day differences.

how did you sync your contacts from your N97 to your macbook? I'm not quite sure how to get around this without waiting for the isync update?
